These steins were clearly makred made in brazil webco which was the acronym for west end brewing company. As a means of distinguishing the brazilian steins from their german-manufactured counterparts, ceramarte colored the point on schultz's head gold and his body white, rather then the off-white used in the original steins. The two colorful spokes-mugs had become household names by the time their last commercial aired in 1965, and have since held a special place in the hearts of many. And on the mantles and bookshelves of stein collectors everywhere.
The character steins that appeared on tv throughout the northeastern united states were actually wooden puppets brought to life by master puppeteer bill baird, with german and irish accented voices provided by jonathan winters, one of america's most beloved comedians.
